The article discusses the place and role of the discipline «General medical practice» in the educational programs of the Ural State Medical University as a factor in improving the quality of training of specialists for primary health care at the stages of specialty, residency, programs of additional education for doctors. The experience of the Department of Preventive and Family Medicine in the development of educational programs, the backbone vector of which is scientifically grounded prevention based on the biopsychosocial concept, is shown. This approach contributes to the acquisition by students of the competencies required by the Federal State Educational Standards of Higher Education, forms the skills necessary for the successful fulfillment of labor functions of the current professional standards.
