Standardization of the additional professional education system for physicians has determined the need to consider established standards for the educational process to ensure the consistency of the physicians’ training quality. Educational programs within the system have a backbone role, as they determine the content of professional medical education. Study guide “Algorithm for development of additional professional programs considering the standards requirements (instructional guidelines)” was prepared by O.M. Drapkina, S.Yu. Astanina, R.N. Shepel and addresses the actual problem of implementation of the requirements of professional standards in the educational process. In the first part of the guide, the authors describe the logical links between the stages of the algorithm for the development of educational programs, highlighting that professional tasks regulated by professional standards are the integrating factor. An illustrative example is given for each stage of the algorithm. The definitions section provides unambiguous interpretation of the terms used. The second part of the guide is an example of a template for an additional professional program for continuing medical education for physicians developed at the National Medical Research Center for Therapy and Preventive Medicine with methodic comments. Focus of educational programs on implementing the requirements of professional standards and federal state standards provides consistency between the results of physicians’ training at different stages of additional professional education, which contributes to the consistency of physicians’ medical education and professional development.
