Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) remain one of the global problems around the world. The incidence of CVD and their contribution to morbidity and mortality in women are underestimated, mainly because of the protective role of estrogens, which leads to underdiagnosis of these diseases in women under 50 years. This review provides information on gender-specific pathophysiology, prevalence and consequences of CVD in women, as well as data on the results of invasive treatment and the use of modern drug therapy.
