Abstract:

Tobacco is one of the leading risk factors for morbidity, premature mortality and shortened life expectancy, accompanied by significant socio-economic costs to society. The problem of smoking is extremely urgent in the world community and especially in our country, which is characterized by a high prevalence of this addiction.

AIM OF STUDY

To analyze the effects of smoking on air transport and summarize airline experience in tobacco control (historical review).

MATERIALS AND METHODS

Literary sources on the aeromedical aspects of smoking, published in the open press, were studied..

RESULTS AND CONCLUSIONS

Today, in most countries of the world there is a policy of general fight against smoking, including public and legislative measures. A number of such measures were also taken in air transport. Most major global airlines prohibit smoking on board aircraft in order to maintain flight safety, create comfort for others and prevent the negative effects of secondhand smoke.
