Abdominal pregnancy: what’s new? Literature review for 10 years (2009—2019)

Abstract:

This review reports on the prevalence of abdominal pregnancy (AP), provides data on the incidence of perinatal and maternal morbidity and mortality. The questions of the mechanism of the origin of primary and secondary AP are considered in detail. Particular attention is paid to full-term abdominal pregnancy, examples of published clinical cases are presented. Most often, the diagnosis in such a situation is made only intraoperatively, which requires the need for specialized surgical care and the availability of blood transfusion therapy. It is emphasized that despite the newly published works on AP cases, there is a problem of timely diagnosis of this pathology. The issues of clinical manifestations and additional methods of AP recognition are discussed. The data on the possibilities and difficulties of ultrasound diagnostics of AP are presented. The modern tactics of managing patients with AP are reported, including conservative methods of treatment. Attention is drawn to the possibility of leaving the placenta in place when it is localized in the vital organs and great vessels. It has been shown that early diagnosis of AP can reduce the incidence of maternal and perinatal complications.
