Abstract:

BACKGROUND

Thoracic aortic aneurysm is a potentially life threating disease, with mortality from rupture about 100%. Isolated aortic arch aneurysms are rare. One of the most rare causes of aneurysms is kinking of the aortic arch.

OBJECTIVE

Demonstration of successful surgical treatment of rare aortic arch anomalies.

DESCRIPTION OF THE CASE

By 29-year-old patient, with hypertension and intermittent claudication symptoms, kinking and aneurysm of the aortic arch were diagnosed. Family history is unremarkable. The patient underwent resection of the aneurysm with end-to-end anastomosis. The follow up period was 6 months. There was no pathological course of the postoperative period.

CONCLUSION

Aneurysm of the aortic arch due to kinking is an extremely rare pathology. Its surgical correction, despite its complexity, is accompanied with a good postoperative results.
