Abstract:

Free fasciocutaneous flaps, such as a radial flap and an anterolateral thigh flap, are one of the most popular autografts for eliminating oral defects. Nevertheless, there are disagreements on their efficacy in reconstructing the tongue (trauma of the donor zone, elasticity, etc.). The paper gives a series of clinical cases and a review of literature on this problem. It provides the functional results of tongue reconstruction using a radial fasciocutaneous autograft, a fasciocutaneous anterolateral thigh flap, or a colo-omental autograft in patients after hemiglossectomy with a follow-up period of 4 to 18 years.
