Surgical interventions to esophageal and cardiac tumors remain one of the most complex sections of modern surgery and oncology. It is particularly difficult to reestablish the continuity of the upper digestive tract sections in unusual situations when the stomach cannot be used as plastic for different reasons. The authors present the results of treatment in 17 patients requiring esophageal resection and plasty when the latter using a gastric graft cannot be done. Different variants of reconstruction, the types of grafts, and possible ways of its performance are covered. To choose the variant of reconstruction, including the type of a graft, the way of its performance, and a procedure for forming an anastomosis, depends on the extent of a tumor, the degree of esophageal injury, the anatomic features of the small and large bowels, previous operations, and a patient's general condition and constitution.
