Patient safety significantly depends on the quality of laboratory tests which is inextricably linked to the observance of the pre-analytical phase rules. It is important to know the error frequency for each relevant quality indicator (QI) of the processes in order to determine the risk level for the possibility to perform the warning and corrective actions.
THE AIM OF THE RESEARCH
To evaluate the levels of preanalytic quality indices in the clinical laboratories of Irkutsk Regional Hospital by comparing the results with the published data of other laboratories.
MATERIAL AND METHODS
We used the archived data on the rejected samples percentage in the clinical laboratories of the Irkutsk Regional Hospital at 2014—2019. A comparative analysis was carried out according to the publications data on threshold limits under the criteria for quality assessment levels.
RESULTS
The paper presents the error rate and the quality indicators used in the medical laboratory of the Irkutsk Regional Hospital for a specified period compared with the published data of the Working Group «Laboratory Errors and Patient Safety» (WG-LEPS) and the National Health Commission of the People’s Republic of China (NKZ PRC), as well as the data of CDL that took part in the Federal system of external quality assessment. We determined the quality levels for 7 preanalytical QI at 2014—2017. The controversive results were obtained when comparing quality levels with the data of WG-LEPS and NHS of China.
CONCLUSIONS
The comparative analysis showed the importance of quality indicators implementation into laboratory practice as well as the appropriateness of using a single threshold calculation algorithm for an objective effectiveness assessment of the pre-analytical phase quality.
