Several meetings of the BLF Working Group on Laboratory Diagnostics COVID-19 were devoted to discussing the possibilities and limitations of sample pooling, which has long been used in the blood service and has recently been actively discussed in the international press and WHO recommendations as a way to increase productivity and reduce costs for SARS-CoV-2 detection studies. Moreover, in the context of acute shortage of capacity to perform the required volume of SARS-CoV-2 detection studies, this approach has also been used in some domestic laboratories, which took the risks and responsibility for its use in the absence of official recommendations.
