The article is devoted to the activities of the USSR healthcare organizer, dermatovenereologist, writer, scientist and teacher Evgeny Dmitrievich Ashurkov. The scientist’s research interest was related to social hygiene, dermatovenereology, national history and the life and work of great people. He published works dedicated to scientists A.G. Polotebnov, V.M. Tarnovsky, writers A.N. Radishchev, A.P. Chekhov. His participation in the Great Patriotic War and his role in preventing dermatovenereal diseases at the front are emphasized. The contribution of E.D. Ashurkov to the training of national personnel in the Mongolian People’s Republic is shown.
Evgeny Dmitrievich actively participated in the country’s public life and was a member of the executive committee of the Union of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, where he provided assistance to victims of armed conflict and natural disasters.
OBJECTIVE
To analyze the diverse activities of E.D. Ashurkov as a healthcare organizer, scientist, dermatovenerologist, writer and teacher.
MATERIAL AND METHODS
A historical and biographical analysis of a wide range of sources, including published scientific, literary and journalistic works by E.D. Ashurkov, as well as unpublished archive materials from the State Archive of the Voronezh Region, his family archive and the Central Archive of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, including databases from the «Podvig naroda» (People’s feat) and «Pamyat’ naroda» (People’s memory) internet portals, was carried out.
RESULTS
The path of E.D. Ashurkov’s life from his childhood in a peasant family to his leadership positions in the USSR healthcare system was reconstructed. His significant contribution to the development of dermatovenereology and the organization of medical care during the Great Patriotic War was revealed. His role as a director of the N.A. Semashko Institute of Healthcare Organization and History of Medicine (1952—1961) was analyzed. His literary talent and journalistic activity were noted.
CONCLUSION
E.D. Ashurkov made significant contribution to healthcare organization, medical science, dermatovenereology, and medical journalism.
