Timely laboratory diagnosis is essential in controlling the spread of syphilis infection. Various methods and diagnostic algorithms are used in screening for syphilis in selected populations. Simultaneous screening for HIV and syphilis is recommended by international guidelines, including the 2017 European AIDS Clinical Society (EACS) guidelines and the 2019 WHO Consolidated guidelines on HIV testing services. We conducted rapid testing for syphilis and HIV among men who have sex with men and women involved in transactional sex. The outreach method was the leading component of the prevention program and was used as a tool for interaction at meeting places and/or homes of persons with risky sexual behavior. We tested 699 individuals: 523 men who have sex with men and 176 women involved in transactional sex. Sixteen (2.29%) positive results were obtained: 9 (1.72%) in men and 7 (3.98%) in women. All patients with a confirmed diagnosis received treatment promptly. Proactive rapid testing for syphilis in individuals with high-risk sexual behavior can detect the disease more quickly, without long waiting times, and provide clinical benefits. Rapid results ensure that the spread and transmission of syphilis are limited.
