The Purpose. Comparative evaluation of the effectiveness of various forms of the drug clotrimazole (2%, vaginal cream and 100 mg, vaginal tablets) in patients with vulvovaginal candidiasis.
MATERIAL AND METHODS
60 women with vulvovaginal candidiasis are divided into 3 groups of 20 persons. Patients of the 1st group used clotrimazole 2% cream intravaginally, for 3 days, the 2nd group — clotrimazole 2% cream, for 6 days, the 3rd group — clotrimazole, vaginal tablets, 100 mg for 6 days. The diagnosis was confirmed by microscopic examination of vaginal discharge, cultural species identification of Candida and, if necessary, Real-time PCR before treatment, 14 and 30 days after its completion.
RESULTS
14 days after the end of therapy, symptoms of vulvovaginal candidiasis (itching/burning, discharge from the genital tract) were absent in 18 (90%) patients of the 1st group, 20 (100%) patients of the 2nd and 15 (75%) patients 3-group, and after 30 days in 18 (90%), 20 (100%) and 16 (80%) patients respectively. The absence of hyperemia, edema and abnormal vaginal discharge 14 days after the end of therapy was found in 85% of patients in group 1, 100% of patients in group 2 and 75% of patients in group 3, and 30 days after treatment — in 95, 100 and 80% of patients respectively. After the treatment, the absence of laboratory signs of vulvovaginal candidiasis was noted in 90% of patients in group 1, in 100% of patients in group 2 and 75% of patients in group 3.
CONCLUSION
The effectiveness a 3-day course of therapy of vulvovaginal candidiasis with clotrimazole 2%, vaginal cream was superior that 6-day use of clotrimazole 100 mg in the form of vaginal tablets. Patients with a history of episodes of the disease within a year should be recommended a 6-day course of therapy with clotrimazole 2%, which demonstrated the highest therapeutic efficacy.
