Psoriasis belongs among the most common skin diseases, affecting up to 5% of population. Relevant objectives of patient management include achieving PASI of 100 and 75, when managing exacerbations, the possibility of long-term control of the disease, and improving the quality of life of patients as a criterion for the success of the first two aspects. In most cases (about 2/3), the process is localized and patients need only effective external treatment. According to clinical guidelines, fixed combination of calcipotriol 50 mg/g and betamethasone 0.5 mg/g is the first-line drug product to treat exacerbations of psoriasis vulgaris. Administration of calcipotriol as a monotherapy or intermittent administration of combined preparation can provide a long-term control. Material and methods. Our study involved 256 patients with psoriasis vulgaris (PASI <15 points). All patients were administered with a combined preparation calcipotriol/betamethasone once per day for an average of 4—6 weeks. Subsequently, the patients were divided into two groups: the 1st group patients received calcipotriol as a monotherapy for 8 weeks and the 2nd group patients intermittently used a combined preparation. Results. In 6 weeks, 179 (69.9%) patients had PASI of 100, and 48 (18.8%) — 75. The results of long-term follow-up have shown that the majority of patients (76.5%) who used calcipotriol were able to control the process throughout the year. In cases where intermittent regimen was used, a year-long remission was observed in 71.7% of the patients. Conclusions. Fixed combination of calcipotriol/betamethasone is the treatment of choice for localized forms of psoriasis vulgaris.
