Diaper dermatitis occurs in at least 40% of infants. Despite the significant advances in the diapers production technology that uses absorbent gels, the problem of diaper dermatitis still remains relevant. Breakdown of the skin barrier function that results from prolonged contact with feces and urine, as well as inefficient hygienic procedures or the use of colored diapers, is considered to be the primary cause of dermatitis. Symptoms of diaper dermatitis, clinical diversity of this disease, and the differential diagnosis with other skin diseases are described. The authors raise the questions related to primary prevention using therapeutic measures. The algorithm of diaper dermatitis prevention proposed by the European Association of Dermatologists is provided. Emollients in the form of water-in-oil emulsion were suggested to be the most effective products for body care. Dexpanthenolum is one of these products. It is the first-line drug in the preventive measures aimed at preventing and at ensuring rapid relief of clinical manifestations of diaper dermatitis at the early stages of its development.
