The paper describes the basic principles of the use of a labeled antibody method, immunofluorescence in particular, to diagnose autoimmune bullous dermatoses. Incorporation of immunofluorescence into the range of studies allows a dermatovenereologist to make an accurate diagnosis of autoimmune bullous dermatoses, by taking into account clinical and immunological findings. Besides, the method makes it possible to establish a differential diagnosis between some forms of a particular disease or a group of diseases. It is equally important to detect and consider additional autoantibodies or immune complexes, the implication of which for the role of pathogenetic factors can modify and complicate the pattern of the disease. A correct and timely diagnosis assists in using adequate treatment regimens and reducing the risk of complications.
