Abstract:

OBJECTIVE

To analyze the results of treatment in patients with pulmonary atresia and intact interventricular septum (PA IVS) depending on morphological features.

MATERIAL AND METHODS

The study included 18 patients treated in 2005—2022. Seven (39%) patients underwent biventricular correction (group 1). They had a median tricuspid valve Z-score 0.85, tripartite right ventricular (RV) and no RV-dependent coronary blood flow. Eleven (61%) patients underwent univentricular correction (group 2). They had a median tricuspid valve Z-score –2.50, unipartite or bipartite RV and RV-dependent coronary blood flow in 3 cases. Mean follow-up period was 20.5 and 57.0 months, respectively.

RESULTS

There were no significant between-group differences in survival (p=0.731). Functional class of heart failure in long-term period was similar.

CONCLUSION

Criteria for PA IVS correction accompanied by favorable early and mid-term results for biventricular repair: tricuspid valve Z-score ≥–2.5, tripartite RV, no RV-dependent coronary blood flow; for univentricular correction: tricuspid valve Z-score <–2.5, unipartite or bipartite RV, RV-dependent coronary blood flow.
