OBJECTIVE

To analyze the immediate results of off-pump bilateral internal mammary artery grafting in patients over 65 years old.

MATERIAL AND METHODS

We retrospectively analyzed postoperative outcomes in 100 patients between 2013 and 2019. All patients underwent off-pump bilateral internal mammary artery grafting. All patients were stratified into two groups depending on age. The first group included patients younger 65 years old (n=47), the second group consisted of patients over 65 years old (n=53). We analyzed preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative parameters, perioperative complications and in-hospital mortality.

RESULTS

In-hospital mortality was absent in all groups. There were no significant differences in perioperative myocardial infarction and acute cerebrovascular accident. We found no significant between-group differences in postoperative renal failure and deep wound infection. Incidence of respiratory failure was higher in the 2nd group.

CONCLUSION

Off-pump bilateral internal mammary artery grafting in patients over 65 years old does not increase the risk of perioperative complications and in-hospital mortality compared to patients younger 65 years old. However, incidence of respiratory failure was higher in patients over 65 years old.
