Conventional sternotomy is safe, reliable and reproducible surgical approach ensuring adequate visualization of all cardiac structures. Nevertheless, sternotomy is associated with excessive blood loss, risk of mediastinitis and prolonged rehabilitation. Over the last 20 years, right mini-thoracotomy has become an alternative approach for mitral valve surgery in the world. We have reviewed literature data devoted to right mini-thoracotomy in mitral valve surgery.
