Abstract:

Aim. To describe the current situation with incidence, clinical features, course, curative methods and outcomes of cardiovascular syphilis. Material and methods. We have analyzed the statistical data of cardiovascular syphilis morbidity in Russia, Moscow and Moscow region for the period from 2000 to 2014. The study included 100 patients with late cardiovascular syphilis, in whom the diagnosis was established during the period from 2006 to 2014. There were 80 men and 20 women including 41 Moscow residents and 59 Moscow region residents. The causes of deaths were analyzed. Outcomes were also compared with previous treatment. Results. Aortic valve disease (51%), aortic aneurysms (39%) and coronary artery stenosis (24%) were predominantly diagnosed among our patients. Gummy myocarditis (3%) was the rarest. The main reason of severe course and deaths is late diagnosis of cardiovascular syphilis.
