Abstract:

OBJECTIVE

To analyze the efficacy and safety of using modified gastric bypass as a primary surgical intervention in patients with morbid obesity.

MATERIAL AND METHODS

A retrospective assessment of immediate and remote (up to 1 year) treatment results was performed in first 50 patients.

RESULTS

No differences were found with the results of other primary bariatric surgeries during hospitalization. When analyzing the remote results, a decrease in the frequency of typical complications of gastric bypass (bile reflux and peptic ulcers) was revealed.

CONCLUSION

The article proposes for the first time a technique for modifying single-anastomosis gastric bypass with an extended gastric reservoir. The new technique has the potential to be a bariatric procedure that is safe in terms of the development of early and late complications.
