Abstract:

The purpose. Analysis of the results of endoscopic diagnosis and treatment of foreign bodies (FB) of the trachea and bronchi in pediatric patients. Material and methods. 186 children aged 7 months to 15 years (most aged 1 to 2 years) with a diagnosis of a foreign body of the trachea or bronchi were hospitalized in the clinic. Results. Pathological changes in plain radiographs of chest organs in children with FB of the lower respiratory tract were absent in 32.2% of cases. 157 (84.4%) identified FB were of organic origin and were represented by plant seeds. Rigid and fibrobronchoscopy were used to diagnose and extract foreign bodies. Foreign bodies were removed in 184 (98.9%) patients. The combined bronchoscopy technique was used in 137 (73.7%) patients. Conclusion. Endoscopic techniques for the diagnosis and extraction of foreign bodies in pediatric patients are highly effective and safe.
