Abstract:

OBJECTIVE

To present a clinical series of eosinophilic gastritis and enterocolitis, with analysis of their clinical features, diagnostic criteria, and therapeutic approaches.

CLINICAL SERIES

The first two cases involved female patients aged 36 and 42 who presented with nonspecific complaints, including abdominal pain and dyspeptic symptoms, and had a history of allergic disorders. Endoscopic findings were limited to moderate hyperemia, edema, and gastric mucosal erosions without obvious etiological factors. Histological examination revealed pronounced eosinophilic infiltration of the mucosa, with eosinophil counts ranging from 50 to 230 per high-power field (HPF), meeting diagnostic criteria for eosinophilic gastrointestinal disease. The third case described a rarer form — eosinophilic enterocolitis — in a 43-year-old male patient. Clinical presentation included diarrhea, hematochezia, and erosive-ulcerative leasions seen on colonoscopy, initially suggesting Crohn’s disease. However, histopathological analysis showed marked tissue eosinophilia (70—100 cells/HPF), leading to a revised diagnosis of eosinophilic enterocolitis.

CONCLUSION

These cases highlight the importance of a multimodal diagnostic approach to eosinophilic gastrointestinal disorders, with histological assessment playing a pivotal role. The presence of concomitant allergic conditions and peripheral eosinophilia should be considered supportive diagnostic markers.
