The medical journal " Vestnik otorinolaringologii" was founded in 1936 with a view to highlighting the most important theoretical and practical aspects of otorhinolaryngology and serve as a major source of reliable up-to-date information for specialists working in this field of medicine.

Publications in the journal reflect the current state of research on ear, throat, and nose pathology as well as recent progress in the practical application of the newly acquired knowledge. They cover a wide range of topics of interest for domestic and foreign authors, such as pathophysiological mechanisms of ENT diseases, ENT surgery, oncological and occupational ENT pathology, rehabilitation, and other problems of modern otorhinolaryngology discussed by researchers in this country and worldwide. The journal is intended for practicing otorhinolaringologists, research scientists, students and teachers of the departments of otorhinolaryngology at higher education institutes and faculties of postgraduate education, for other professionals working in related fields and showing interest in otorhinolaryngology.
Publication in Vestnik otorinolaringologii is a matter of honour and prestige: the names of the authors and their articles appear in the most popular domestic and foreign databases, such as Russian Index of Science Citation (RISC), Google Scholar, Scopus, Web of Science (Russian Science Citation Index – RSCI), Medline, which is a measure of the author’s research activity and its recognition by the world scientific community. When preparing a manuscript, authors should follow Recommendations on conducting, describing, editing and publishing the results of scientific work in medical journals of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE).
When reviewing an article, the editorial board can check the material using Anti-plagiarism system. If multiple borrowings are found, the editorial board acts according to the rules COPE.
In preparing the manuscript, authors should follow the Recommendations for the Conduct, Reporting, Editing and Publication of Scholarly Work in Medical Journals of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors.
The Editorial Board can check the material using the Anti-Plagiarism system. In the case of multiple borrowings, the Editorial Board operates in accordance with COPE rules.
The journal “Vestnik otorinolaryngologii” publishes articles concerning all aspects of upper respiratory tract and ear morbidity as well as related problems and other medical disciplines. The following rules should be strictly observed by the author(s) submitting an article to the journal.
1. The article must be submitted with a covering letter from the institution to which the authors are affiliated and approved in writing by the research supervisor whose signature on the title page should be attested by the institution’s round stamp (download blank form - MS Word .doc).
2. The manuscript must be submitted either electronically (as a single file ready for printing out) or printed on one side of A4 size paper together with an electronic copy (CD-R disk). Both, the manuscript and all the appendices should be typewritten in the Times New Roman font using a 14 point font size with a 1.5 spacing between rows and the left margin of no less than 3 cm. An original full length research paper should not exceed 8 pages, casuistic reports and clinical notes must be no longer than 3 pages. Lectures and review or summary articles may be longer (up to 12 – 14 pages).
3. The first (title) page of the manuscript must contain the article heading followed by the full name (surname, first letters of the name and patronymic), scientific degree and academic rank of the author(s). Start the next paragraph with the information about the host institution (department, faculty, laboratory) including its full name, city, postal code, country, and the full name of the head (surname, first letters of the name and patronymic along with scientific degree and academic rank). The name of each author and the institute with which he (she) is affiliated must be marked by a unique digital index. You must specify the ORCID for the author who submits the article, and preferably for each author of the article. If there is no ORCID number, you need to obtain it by registering at https://orcid.org/. We recommend to check the correct spelling of the institution's name on the site https://grid.ac.
4. It is recommended that the material of a research articles should be organized in the following order: a concise literature review, aim of the study, methods, results and discussion, conclusion. The text of the manuscript must be thoroughly edited and verified by the author(s) before submission. It should be presented in a logical clear fashion without redundancies and repetitions of the data included in the tables and figures. The international system of units (SI) should be used throughout the article. Special attention should be given to the tables, doses of pharmaceutical products, formulas, figures, and quotations.
5. The number of illustrations included in the article must be such as absolutely necessary to clarify the text (no more than three). Each illustration must be presented on a separate sheet of paper. Legends for the figures are also presented on separate pages, they must explain parts of the figure, symbols, arrows, and other notations. A figure consisting of a few fragments must have the common title followed by a separate description of each fragment. Legends to microphotographs should contain information on the degree of magnification and the staining technique. The figures must not repeat materials of the tables.
Signatures and all text data must be sent in Russian and English!
The text of the manuscript should contain references to the tables and figures; the place where a concrete table or figure should appear in the text is indicated by a square on the left margin with the number of the table (figure).
Captions for figures and photos, notes must be in Russian and English.
6. The list of references should be typewritten with a 1.5 spacing on a separate page, each reference appearing on a new line. The references should be numbered sequentially in the order in which they are cited in the text. Each reference contains the following information: (1) all the authors and (2) the title of the article or the book; (3) books enter the list of references with the publisher’s imprint (city where they were published followed by colon, name of the publishing house, and the year of publication). In the case of reference to a selected chapter of a book, it must begin with the names of all the authors of the chapter and its title, the capitalized notation “In:” followed by the names of the author(s) or editor (s) of the book, its title, and the publisher’s imprint.
References to the articles in serial publications are included in the list of references with the names of all authors, full title of the article, name of the journal and the year of publication (without a punctuation mark between them) followed by semicolon, number (for Russian-language journals) or number and volume (for foreign journals), colon, page numbers (from – to).
The names of individual authors mentioned in the text should be cited in full (surname preceded by the first letters of the name and patronymic), with the names of the foreign authors appearing in the native spelling. Each reference in the text should be given as an Arabic numeral enclosed by square brackets in accordance with the attached list of references.
Please pay attention! The only correct form of doi-link:

Do not use «doi:», «dx.doi.org», etc. Within the link onlyhyphen is used.
There is no dot after doi and URL!
7. Each original research paper must be supplemented by an abstract to be translated into the English language with the title of the article, the full names of the authors (surname, the first letters of the name and patronymic), and the name of the institution(s) with which they are affiliated. The size of the abstract should not exceed 25 lines. The structured abstracts should be divided into the following sections: the aim of the study, its methods and main results. The abstract must be accompanied by 3-5 key words to facilitate indexing of the article in the information storage and retrieval systems. The authors feeling confident in the English language are encouraged to translate the abstract.8. The paper must be signed by all the authors. Detailed information about each author should be presented on a separate page in the end of the manuscript including surname, first name, and patronymic, scientific degree, academic rank, place of employment, postal and electronic addresses, contact telephone numbers.
All the articles submitted for publication in the journal are subjected to peer review. The editors reserve the right to make editorial changes in the manuscript and ask the authors(s) for the reduction of longer articles. The articles published previously or pending publication in another journal are not considered by the Editorial Board. Nor does it consider the manuscripts failing to meet the above submission criteria and procedures.
All the articles including those containing the results of original investigations carried out by post-graduate students and applicants for a scientific degree are published for free.

All the manuscripts submitted for publication in the journal are peer reviewed (single-blind peer review).
The journal provides peer reviewing of all the submitted materials that are within the remit of the journal for expert evaluation. All peer reviewers are the acknowledged experts who specialize in the field relevant to the reviewed materials and have had publications relevant to the topic of the article being reviewed over the past 3 years. The peer reviews are stored in the publishing and editorial office for 5 years.
Reviewers treat the article as confidential material and strictly follow the author’s right for non-disclosure of the data reported in the manuscript before the article is published. The reviewer may engage additional experts only with permission from the Editorial Board and on a confidential basis.
Reviewers’ comments are sent to the author without disclosing the reviewers’ identity. The Editorial Board makes a final decision whether to publish the manuscript or not after the peer reviews and authors’ answers were received. The Editorial Board sends copies of peer reviews or a substantiated rejection to the authors and also sends copies of the peer reviews to the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation if a request has been received by the Editorial Board.
In some cases, the Editorial Board can send the article for an additional peer review, including statistical and methodological reviewing.
The Editorial Board constantly monitors the quality of peer review using the Russian version of the Review Quality Instrument questionnaire (Version 3.2), van Rooyen S., Black N., Godlee F. J Clin Epidemiol 1999;52:625-9.
