OBJECTIVE

To evaluate the effectiveness of pharmacophysical treatment (endaural phonoelectrophoresis) for secondary subjective tinnitus associated with chronic sensorineural hearing loss.

MATERIAL AND METHODS

The results of pharmacophysical treatment with dexamethasone or B vitamins in 92 patients (109 ears) with chronic sensorineural hearing loss and subjective tinnitus as the primary complaint are presented.

RESULTS

The degree of subjective tinnitus bothersomeness does not correlate with the degree of hearing loss. However, with a reduction in hearing thresholds, the burdensomeness of subjective tinnitus also decreases dynamically. A significant clinical effect was achieved in 27% of cases, and a satisfactory one in 50% of cases. The greatest therapeutic effect is predicted to be achieved with treatment administered within the first 4 months of the disease, as well as with a greater number of physiotherapy sessions (optimally 8—10). The effect of the therapy lasts for at least 3 months.

CONCLUSION

Endaural phonoelectrophoresis with dexamethasone and B vitamins can be considered a non-invasive, safe, and effective treatment for secondary subjective tinnitus associated with chronic sensorineural hearing loss.
