Abstract:

The elimination of defects in the patients presenting with moderate and severe periodontitis constitutes a serious challenge for periodontologists. One of the approaches to the restoration of the masticatory function in the patients with this condition (especially in the case of the absence of teeth) is the formation of resin-bonded bridges. This method was employed to treat 15 patients suffering from chronic generalized periodontitis (CGP). We evaluated the effectiveness of the application of a new fiber glass material for the reinforcement of the periodontal splints using preimpregnation with a composite. The clinical examination of the patients and the evaluation of microcirculation in the periodontal tissues were carried out 24 hours after fixation of the structure and thereafter within 3 and 6 months. The results of the study give evidence that immobilization of the mobile teeth promotes the restoration of the masticatory function and improves hemodynamics in the periodontal tissues. Capillaroscopy performed within a few months after the treatment has demonstrated the well apparent changes in the morphological and functional characteristics of the periodontal microcirculatory system.
