Increasingly more patients are currently concerned about their smile. Teeth colour is a main factor characterizing the aesthetic outcome in stomatology. The availability of simple-to-use professional tooth bleaching systems for domestic application allows to rapidly achieve good results. In practice, however, the manufacturers’ recommendations on wearing the whitening trays raise many questions related to enhanced teeth sensitivity after completion of the bleaching procedures. The objective of the present study was to revise and modify protocols of wearing customized whitening trays to make the at-home professional bleaching procedure more comfortable. The Nite White ACP 16% system containing the 16% carbamide peroxide gel for nocturnal tooth whitening was used for the purpose. Each patient was given a teeth home bleaching kit containing the whitening gel and customized trays. Material and methods. All the patients with teeth discoloration of different etiology (in accordance with ICD-10) were allocated to three groups. Group 1 (n=10) was comprised of the patients who daily performed tooth whitening sessions (7 times during 6—8 night hours), group 2 (n=10) included the patients performing tooth whitening sessions every 2nd day (7 times during 6—8 night hours), and group 3 (n=10) contained the patients who performed tooth whitening sessions every 4nd day (7 times during 6—8 night hours). Results. The study has demonstrated reduced teeth sensitivity in the patients who performed tooth whitening sessions every 4nd day. Conclusion. It is concluded that interruptions in daily sessions of the at-home teeth bleaching procedure increase the probability of abnormally high teeth sensitivity.
