Abstract:

The author provides arguments in support of the opinion that the problem of caries management remains essentially unresolved. He subjects to criticism the current view of dental enamel as an investing tissue escaping from control by the organism. The data on the functional variability of the properties of enamel and its outer layers are presented. The author gives reasons for the necessity to use the available data on dental physiology in research and practical work on the prevention of caries.
