Abstract:

The authors recorded the nasal cycle (NC) in 28 healthy adults (14 men aged 18-78 years and 14 women aged 19-79 years) by 24-hour monitoring using a Rhinocycle rhinoflowmeter. They established differences in the pattern of daytime and nighttime NC. The duration of a period of airflow fluctuations proved to be shorter in daytime than at night. Irregular NC fluctuations were more often recorded in the period of wakefulness. NC during nocturnal sleep became classical in the majority of the examinees.
