Objective — to investigate nasal cavity geometry and volume in patients with unsuccessful outcomes of intranasal surgery by acoustic rhinometry. Patients and methods. The geometry of the nasal cavity was investigated in 39 patients who had previously undergone one to four surgical interventions into the intranasal structures and in 45 patients who had admitted for surgical treatment for the first time. The study was conducted using an Interacoustics SRE2100 apparatus with RhinoScan software. Results. Analysis of the results of acoustic rhinometry in the patients from the study group and in those from Control Group 1 could establish a significant increase in the total minimal cross-sectional area over a length of 22 to 54 mm and in the total nasal cavity volume after the use a vasoconstrictor (p<0.05). Conclusion. This paper provides for the first time a rationale for the capability of acoustic rhinometry to evaluate the nasal cavity in patients with unsuccessful outcomes of intranasal surgery.
