Abstract:

The analysis of recent publications on technologies and methods of motivational counseling (MC) used by doctors of various specialties for primary and secondary prevention of chronic non-infectious diseases is presented. The key concepts of MC are defined, examples of specific questions and recommendations on the style of communication between the doctor and the patient are given. Four core or basic skills (stages) of MC were named: open questions, affirms, active listening and generalization. The attention of doctors and healthcare specialists is focused on the differences between the “usual” traditional communication with the patient and the recommended communication in the style of MC. Existing algorithms and models of MC are presented in the form of various strategies and recommendations. The prospects for further research to improve the efficiency of MC and to create standardized algorithms and reference materials for medical workers are discussed. MC technologies are recommended for practical use by a wide range of doctors and specialists involved in the health modification and healthy lifestyle of the population.
