The paper presents the results of the second wave of monitoring the use of screening and brief intervention in primary health care to identify a risk for disorders associated with alcohol abuse among the population. At this stage, data collection forms are unified, which allow regional comparisons and evaluation of the effectiveness of a strategy as a whole and for individual stages. The country’s current situation is described in terms of the number of examinees, people at risk of disorders resulting from substance abuse, those referred for specialized medical care, and that of specialists trained in early detection technologies and the basics of preventive counseling. The significant regional differences in identifying the risks associated with alcohol use, as well as in different surveyed contingents in one region are difficult to be explained by the prevalence of problems among the population. There is a need for further study of the influence of factors associated with the characteristics of screened contingents, with organizational aspects, with motivation and training of personnel.
