Objective - to study the proliferative and angiogenic activity in subepithelial stroma of ovarian endometriomas. Material and methods. Microvessel density, proliferative activity (Ki-67) and expression of VEGF-A, VEGF R-1, VEGF R-2, FGF-2 in subepithelial stroma of ovarian endometriotic cysts were studied with the help of immunohistochemistry. VEGF-A, sVEGF R-1, sVEGF R-2, FGF-2 levels were measured in serum and in peritoneal fluid. Results. 5 (17.2%) of patients had significant increased proliferative (Ki-67) and angiogenic activity (density of microvessels, expression of VEGF-A in the blood vessels) in subepithelial stroma of endometriomas. 24 (82.8%) patients had low proliferative and angiogenic activity in subepithelial stroma of endometriomas. These data are consistent with the content of VEGF-A, sVEGF R-1, sVEGF R-2, FGF-2 in serum and peritoneal fluid. Conclusions. The patients with high proliferative and angiogenic activity in subepithelial stroma of endometriomas have significantly increased serum and peritoneal fVEGF-A levels compared with patients with low proliferative and angiogenic activity. VEGF-А level may be a marker of proliferative activity in endometriomas.
