The efficacy indolecarbinol for mastalgia treatment was studied in randomized double-blind placebo-controlled multicenter clinical trial. 62 patients received 400 mg/day of indolecarbinol or placebo for 6 menstrual cycles. The success rate in therapy group was significantly higher than in placebo group (83.3% vs. 50.3%, p=0.002). Plasma concentration of sex steroid-binding globulin increased and free estradiol level decreased in Indinol Forto group. Increased ratio of urinary estrogen metabolites (2-hydroxyestrone/16α-hydroxyestrone) was observed in indocarbinol group. Indocarbinol is recommended for the treatment of patients with both cyclical mastalgia and mammary dysplasia.
