Abstract:

Subcutaneous injections of insulin thus far remain the main the sole method for the treatment of DM1. The action of subcutaneously administered insulin depends on a variety of factors, such as the injection site, absorption rate from subcutaneous tissue, type of insulin, environmental conditions, etc. Dosage accuracy and injection force are of paramount importance for the improvement of glycemic control. The SoloSTAR insulin pen has all the properties of modern devices for insulin administration; it is a disposable pre-filled pen, allowing to set doses in steps of 1 unit, adjust the dose backward and forward, and reduce the injection force compared with similar devices. One more factor influencing insulin action is homogeneity of the crystalline suspension in case of prescription of NPH insulin or fixed insulin mixtures. An advantage of using Insuman Rapid and Insuman Basal in the disposable pre-filled SoloSTAR insulin pens is the resuspension technology ensuring a high degree of homogeneity of the crystalline suspension.
