Objective: to evaluate the efficacy, safety, pharmacodynamics, and pharmacokinetics of 10-mg morphine tablets. Subjects and methods. An investigation was conducted in 6 oncology clinical centers of Russia, which enrolled a total of 130 patients: a pharmacokinetic evaluation group (n = 20) took the test drug as one tablet every 4 hours for 7 days; a drug efficacy evaluation group (n = 110) consisted of two subgroups: 1) 55 patients received 10-mg tablets of morphine (the test drug) as one tablet every 4 hours for 7 days; 2) 55 patients were given 4 mg of 1% morphine solution (the comparison drug) every 4 hours for 7 days. Results. The investigations have shown the high efficiency of film-coated short-acting morphine tablets, 10 mg, compared to injectable 4-mg morphine relative to the primary and secondary criteria for efficacy evaluation. Conclusion. The Russian drug short-acting morphine tablets, 10 mg, is an alternative to injectable morphine in efficacy and safety, but is more convenient for the long-term management of chronic pain in palliative care patients.
