Abstract:

Objective — to study the possibilities of cytoreductive interventions in combination with hyperthermic intraoperative intraperitoneal chemotherapy or intraoperative photodynamic therapy in patients with disseminated mucinous adenocarcinoma of the appendix. Subjects and methods. The investigation enrolled 38 patients aged 23 to 79 years with T3—4N0M1a mucinous adenocarcinoma of the appendix (pseudomyxoma peritonei), who had undergone cytoreductive surgery in combination with intraoperative methods of exposure of the tumor. Results. The paper presents an analysis by the peritoneal carcinomatosis index, the completeness of cytoreduction, the nature and severity of postoperative complications, and mortality rates. There were postoperative complications in 6 (15.7%) patients and a fatal outcome in one. Conclusion. Cytoreductive surgery for appendiceal pseudomyxoma is a highly effective and rather safe treatment.
