Abstract:

The paper analyzes the results of studies of the efficacy of octreotide that is a native somatostatin analogue. To choose the optimal treatment of patients with castration-refractory prostate cancer (CRPC) is a challenge particularly for patients with the asymptomatic disease and for those with the progressive process after docetaxel chemotherapy. The authors consider one of the drug therapy options for patients with CRPC - the use of somatostatin analogues. Octreotide is one of the most known drugs in this group. The agent may be used in patients with CRPC both before and after systemic cytotoxic therapy. Octreotide therapy is an effective and safe medical exposure, causes minimal side effects, and it is well tolerated.
