Abstract:

Prurigo nodularis is a rare multifactorial neuroallergic dermatosis characterized by a chronic course and a significant reduction in patients’ quality of life. A severe nodular rash and virtually unceasing itching significantly affect the patient’s appearance and aggravates their psychological state. Treatment is challenging since current therapeutic agents are not always effective due to the prurigo nodularis pathogenesis features and the need for long therapy courses using systemic and topical medications and physiotherapeutic treatment. A review of the literature related to prurigo nodularis pathogenesis was carried out; the differential diagnostics with other dermatoses with a similar clinical presentation and treatment with systemic and topical agents were considered. The authors describe a clinical case of prurigo nodularis with a torpid course from their practice.
