Urticaria is a group of diseases accompanied by the appearance of transient urticarial rashes on the skin and/or the development of angioneurotic edema. It is customary to divide urticaria into acute and chronic, depending on the duration of clinical manifestations. Distinguished also spontaneous and induced urticaria, the latter is usually divided into forms, based on the physical causes of the rash. On average, in a population urticaria occurs in 1% of people, women suffer 2 times more often than men. The disease usually lasts 2 to 5 years. Spontaneous remission occurs during the first year in 30—50% of cases. Chronic urticaria, although it does not pose risks to the patient's life, significantly impairs its quality. Many patients report swelling and itching as the worst symptoms of the disease. In 34.5% of patients, psychiatric disorders are detected, mainly of an anxious and depressive nature. The basis of urticaria therapy is antihistamines. Own observations demonstrate the high effectiveness of ebastin in the treatment of chronic urticaria, which is consistent with long-term clinical studies of this drug. So, according to our own data, the frequency of occurrence of urticarial rashes decreases in 3 times after 2 weeks of ebastin therapy in more than half of patients.
