The incidence of rosacea ranges from 1 to 20% in different countries. Prevalence of the disease is being increased in Russia. Genetic predisposition, the state of innate immunity, skin and gastrointestinal microflora, hepatobiliary, endocrine and nervous disorders are discussed in the genesis of rosacea. Angioneurotic changes have a leading role. In typical cases, there are symmetrical eruptions on the face including persistent erythema, papules, pustules, telangiectasias. Skin nodules are observed in rare cases. Rosacea is rarely associated with asymmetric eruptions. This review is devoted to manifestations of unilateral rosacea: neuritis of facial nerve, as an eyelid edema, keratitis, otophyma. It is also described asymmetric rosacea in a 50-year-old woman who had suffered from rosacea for 1 year and applied topical glucocorticoid agent. This drug aggravated extremely the course of rosacea. Neurological symptoms were absent. Probably, prolonged uncontrolled steroid therapy followed by changes in local immunity led to above-mentioned exacerbation of the disease. This case report suggests the possibility of asymmetric process in rosacea.
