Relevance. A misconception about the need to «dry» greasy or combination skin with acne results in worsening of dermatitis, which is associated with increased follicular hyperkeratosis in these patients. On the contrary, patients with acne need adequate moistening of the skin in the affected area. At the same time, control of follicular hyperkeratosis is an essential objective of the treatment. Objective. The study was aimed at assessing clinical efficacy of a combination treatment, including topical retinoid and Topicrem AC in patients with moderate acne. Material and methods. The study included 50 patients with moderate acne. The patients were divided into two groups by blind sampling. Group 1 patients applied topical Topicrem AC Active Care in the morning, adapalene cream in the evening, and Topicrem AC Compensating Moisturizing Cream at night. Topicrem AC Purifying Cleansing Gel was used as a detergent in the morning and in the evening prior to the application of skin care products. Group 2 patients received monotherapy with topical retinoids in the form of cream (adapalene). The result was evaluated based on acne index, corneometry, sebumetry, and questioning of patients. Results. The results of corneometry in control group patients showed that the use of adapalene as a monotherapy in patients with acne did not retain the original moisture level, but rather reduced it. The experimental group demonstrated significant increase in moisture content both in 30 days and in 60 days (60.6 and 89.5%, respectively). The number of respondents, who rated the treatment outcome as «excellent» was 25% higher in the group of patients who received the combination therapy with Topicrem AC products compared to the control. Skin greasiness as measured by sebumetry decreased in both groups of patients. Conclusion. The results of our study showed that treatment with topical retinoids should be mandatorily supplemented by moisturizers. Combination therapy using Topicrem AC products for greasy and combination skin prone to acne is effective and safe.
