Abstract:

The article presents updated clinical guidelines “Phlebitis and thrombophlebitis of superficial vessels” developed by the Association of Phlebologists of Russia with support of other scientific societies.

MATERIAL AND METHODS

Previous version of clinical guidelines was revised, and new literature data were analyzed. Some recommendations were updated using the methodology proposed by the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation.

RESULTS

The working group prepared 118 recommendations for the management of patients with thrombophlebitis, including classification, diagnosis, treatment and secondary prevention. Treatment strategies for various patient groups are presented including patients with varicose veins, malignant neoplasms, thrombophlebitis of the upper extremities, prenatal and postpartum period.

CONCLUSION

Surgeons, vascular surgeons, obstetricians-gynecologists, oncologists should use the recommendations for the management of patients with superficial thrombophlebitis in clinical practice.
