We joins with so many organizations, colleagues and friends who knew Professor Jose Ramon Armengol Miro who was an instrumental and irreplaceable asset to the field of endoscopy. A true pioneer and mentor of the specialty worldwide, Professor Armengol Miro led a long and distinguished career, having received many honors and awards as well as serving as president of several scientific and medical societies, organizations and committees.

A decorated role model to many colleagues around the world, Prof. Armengol Miro was committed to the education and training of young gastroenterologists, serving as a speaker at many courses and meetings regularly.

Professor Armengol Miro was truly a humanitarian, devoting his time and expertise to several initiatives in the developing world.

Professor Armengol Miro was years old when he passed and leaves behind a legacy whose achievements will continue to shape gastroenterology for years to come.

The passing away of Jose Ramon Armengol Miro, one of our dearest international friends, left us bereaved and overwhelmed with sadness, submerged in a flood of memories, spanning almost all our professional life and beyond. Through our regular contacts and visits to Barcelona Val d’ Hebron — the world Mecca of endoscopy, a lifelong comradeship and partnership was born, crystalized in numerous contacts and activities and a quite conspicuous parallelism of our academic careers. He introduced us into World gastroenterology and endoscopy with numerous presentations at the WIDER meetings. Together we created an international educational gastro-surgical platform to foster closer interaction between our colleagues all over the world.

Professor Armengol Miro was the driving force to introduce us in World Endoscopy. Getting us involved in the creation of a training courses in Russia was inspiring and enriching. Passing on his WIDER presidency to us was the ultimate expression of mutual trust, confidence, loyalty and friendship.

The memories of a highly talented, eager, wise, loyal, compassionate, charming gentleman-like endoscopy-king will never fade.
