Abstract:

Management of abdominal pain may be a serious problem especially in patients with chronic pancreatitis, abdominal and retroperitoneal malignancies. Minimally invasive interventions including CT-guided blockade and neurolysis of celiac plexus are used in order to increase effectiveness of therapy and reduce drug load and related side effects. Development of this technique, anatomical features of retropancreatic space, physiological and clinical aspects of blockade of celiac plexus and splanchnic nerves, as well as the modern attitude to this procedure are reviewed in the article. Variants of celiac blockades, indications and contraindications for this approach, features of CT-guided manipulations are described in details. Possible side effects and complications are taken in consideration; recommendations are given for optimization of procedures.
