Forensic medical examination of the corpses revealed the signs of sudden death in the absence of macroscopic pathological changes in the internal organs. The forensic histological study demonstrated the signs of generalized cytomegalovirus infection. Taken together, these findings and medical documentation of the case suggest generalized cytomegalovirus infection with the signs of its chronic nature complicated by the development of acute cardiopulmonary insufficiency as the cause of death of both twins.
