Abstract:

The objective of the present study was to evaluate the role of sodium lauryl sulfate as the toxicoprotector of the mucosal membrane in the oral cavity. Material and methods. Two toothpastes were used in the study, one containing sodium lauryl sulfate and the other free from this compound. The hygienic status of the oral cavity was estimated based on the Fedorov-Volodkina index. Results and discussion. The toxic action of sodium lauryl sulfate was assessed from the amount of sialic acids and the results of microelectrophoresis. The study has demonstrated the inflammatory reaction to the application of sodium lauryl sulfate.
