Propionibacterium acnes activates innate cell immunity, which leads to inflammation. Polysaccharide biofilm plays an important role in the survival of microorganisms and formation of comedones. Biofilm significantly increases antibiotic resistance of P. acnes. The discovery of novel prophylactic or therapeutic agents against P. acnes biofilms and powerful auxiliary effective drugs during the course of antibacterial therapy for acne is highly relevant. Objective — the study was aimed at investigating the clinical efficacy of skin cosmetics Keracnyl PP in patients with mild to moderate acne and the effect of the drug on the results of sebumetry and corneometry. Material and methods. A total of 21 patients with acne aged 16 to 27 years, including 15 females and 6 males, were followed at the Center of Medical Cosmetology of the North-Western State Medical University n.a. I.I. Mechnikov. All patients applied cleansing gel Keracnyl, washed it out, and then applied soothing cream Keracnyl PP 2 times a day, in the morning and in the evening, for 8 weeks. All patients were examined during the treatment, including photographing, corneometry (Corneometer CM 825, «Courage & Khazaka», Germany), and sebumetry (Sebumeter MPA 580, «Courage & Khazaka», Germany). Results. Treatment with Keracnyl PP significantly reduces the number of inflammatory elements of acne. Different sebumetry values were measured on the forehead, cheeks, and neck. Forehead skin oiliness decreased by 34% (p>0.05) in 1 month and by 45% (p<0.05) after another 1 month compared to the baseline. Cheek skin oiliness decreased by 47% (p>0.05) in 2 months. However, neck skin oiliness increased by 93% in 1 month and restored to the baseline values after another 1 month. Two months after initiation of treatment, moisture content in the stratum corneum increased by 8% in the forehead, by 6% in the cheeks, and by 2% in the neck with respect to the baseline values. Conclusion. Application of skin cosmetics Keracnyl PP in the treatment of acne for 2 months results in disappearance of inflammatory elements, it is well tolerated by patients, decreases oiliness at seborrheic areas, moistens and mattes the skin, and therefore it can be recommended for the practical application in dermatology and cosmetology.
