Abstract:

An extensively used model of syphilitic infection was employed to evaluate the influence of antigen from purified proteins of cellular structures of cultured Treponema pallidum (CTP), strains V, VII, VIII, IX, and Reiter on the clinical course of experimental syphilis in rabbits. It was shown that intravenous administration of purified proteins from CTP cellular structures to the infected animals prolonged (by 1.5 times on the average compared with control) the period of detection of the vegetative form of Treponema pallidum in puncture samples from syphilitic orchitis, accelerated the development of chancre, increased maximum titers of specific and non-specific antibodies in the serum. Administration of antigen from purified proteins of CTP cellular structures had no effect on the onset of manifestation of secondary syphilis in the rabbits and serum negativation time in relevant serological reactions.
