THE PURPOSE OF THE STUDY

Analysis of the results of surgical treatment of chronic colostasis in patients with dolichocolon.

MATERIAL AND METHODS

The study is devoted to retro- and prospective analysis of results of treatment of chronic constipation in 47 patients with dolichocolon. Sixteen patients were performed laparoscopic subtotal colectomy, 31 patients were performed laparoscopic left-sided hemicolectomy. The comparative analysis of the immediate and long-term results of surgical treatment was assessed.

RESULTS

All patients after subtotal colectomy report positive treatment results with 1-year follow-up. In the group of patients after left-sided hemicolectomy there was 55% of the results marked “good” or “satisfactory”, however, 45% of this group had postoperative colostasis, whilst the dynamic follow-ups showed both a decrease in stool frequency up to 3—5 times a week, and a decrease in the quality of defecation.

CONCLUSION

Laparoscopic subtotal colectomy for surgical treatment of chronic colostasis out of dolichocolon allows achieving much better functional status results in short-term and long-term follow-ups, and significantly improves the quality of life of patients.
